LAST week in Yester Years, we published a picture of a celebration at Heathside School.

Well many of you enjoyed the trip down memory lane and have been helping us out with some of the names of the people in the picture.

The school was on the site of what is now Debenhams on the corner of Legh Street and Kendrick Street (now part of Midland Way) and was near to the old Warrington Fire Station.

Many of you got in touch to help with some of the names and thanks especially go to Jean Jepson, Wyn Higham and John Parkin.

Mr Parkin says he remembers this photo was taken for the Coronation in 1954.

Each of the four classes did dancing based on England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Some of the more eagle-eyed among you can see some of the girls wearing Tartan and others wearing Welsh hats.

He remembers Joyce Beddard, Wendy Clare and Enid Williams who had a lovely singing voice, usually in Welsh.

Jean Jepson said: “I was born in 1948 and attended Heathside Infant school and later the junior school opposite the fire station.

“I would have been aged five at the time of the Coronation.

“I’m 99 per cent certain that I am on the photograph. Moving from left to right I’m the sixth child on the front row.”

She said she can remember the head teacher Miss Lee.

Finally Wyn Higham, nee Winifred Harding, has also been in touch as she also has the original copy of the picture.

She said: “One of my dearest and oldest friends is next me Kathleen Turner (sadly no longer with us).

“On the front row Ann Moxon, Cynthia Baker, Joyce Beddard, Enid Williams Wendy Clare.

“Then me, just back slightly Jean Spruce, then my friend Kathleen, Ann Skelton, then the next four I’m not sure of but I think one is Veronica Mundalin, Shirley Brown not sure about the others.

“Behind us I can name some but not exactly identify where they are standing. Brenda Bibby, Leila Marsh, Angela Cotton, Ann Boon, Pat Broderick and Zerica Barton.

“Thanks once again for the trip down memory lane.”
