FIVE hundred runners took to the streets of High Legh on Sunday for the annual 10k race.

And in cool and damp conditions which were ideal, two Warrington runners won the races.

Overall winner was Chris Stanford of Warrington Tri Club in a time of 33.34 – just slightly over the race record of 32.33 set by James Wignall in 2017. The first woman was Tracy Entwistle of Warrington Road Runners in 39.35.

Members of Lymm Runners, who organise the race, and members of the community helped with being marshals on the day.

The race has a reputation for being welcoming and friendly and is also traditionally the first race of the year for many beginners who have either taken up or returned to running as a New Year’s resolution.

One runner, Georgina Wood, said: “What an amazing inspiration to see so many runners smile as they reached the last 200m.”

There were many who went home on a high with their first medals as well as plenty more seasoned runners who achieved personal bests due to the good conditions.

Race director Nick Gerrard said: “Our sponsors were extremely generous this year and we would like to thank all of them for providing grants, fruit, cakes, water and a wide range of prizes – including some beautifully wrapped plants for the category winners.

“We were also able to introduce a new feature of spot prizes this year. Their help in making the event such a success is hugely appreciated.”

A club spokesman added: “We would like to thank everyone who was involved in the organisation of the race under the Directorship of Nick Gerrard, from both Lymm Runners and the High Legh Community especially the Marshals, High Legh Primary School and PTA.”
