TWO naked swimming sessions are set to be held in Penketh.

Penketh Pool on Honiton Way will host the nude swim nights in July and August as part of the Great British Skinny Dip.

Up to 30 naturists will take part in each swim, which are being organised by British Naturism - a members organisation which promotes naturism in the UK.

Andrew Welch from British Naturism said: “There is a growing interest in naturism.

“There is this presumption that we’re a bit weird and on the fringes of society, but actually we’re lovely.

“It’s a really nice crowd of happy people that have found something that really enhances their lives.

The swims - Warrington’s first Great British Skinny Dip events - will take place from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, July 12, and Friday, August 9.

And further naked swimming sessions could take place in the future if the events are a success.

Andrew added: “We have the Great British Skinny Dip every year, and one of our members approached a pool that was run by a trust in Wigton in Cumbria.

“It was so successful and so many people came that they decided to do their own nude swim every second Saturday of the month.

“It’s been so successful, even more successful than the original event, that it’s now a permanent fixture.

“Anybody who wants to go for a nude swim in Wigton knows that there is this session being run by the pool.

“We’re rather hopeful that this will happen in a lot of other places, and maybe Penketh is one of the places where it can.”
