THE Manchester and District Golf Alliance's top competition, the Dunham Forest Trophy, gets under way soon with the draw made for the preliminary round.

The competition features the professional and top six amateurs from all member clubs – more than 110 clubs in a 35-mile radius around Manchester – in a team knockout, with the last four through to finals day at Dunham Forest Golf Club in September.

Holders Chorley have a bye into round one and local clubs' preliminary round ties are: Ashton-under-Lyne v Chorlton, Heaton Moor v Ringway, Davyhulme Park v Withington, Warrington v Dunham Forest, Altrincham v Reddish Vale and Northenden v Pike Fold.

Other local teams who have byes into the last 64 in round one are Ashton on Mersey, Didsbury and Sale.

The draw has also been made for the City Glass Men’s Foursomes Knockout featuring seven pairs from each club in a fierce matchplay knockout format, aiming to make finals day at Dukinfield Golf Club, who won the trophy in 2018.

Preliminary-round ties involving local clubs are: Houldsworth v Didsbury, Dunham Forest v Wychwood Park, Altrincham v Heaton Moor, Ringway v Dukinfield, Manchester v Chorlton, Hart Common v Ashton on Mersey, Sale v Leyland and Withington v Hindley Hall.

Other local teams receiving byes into round one are Davyhulme Park and Northenden.
