WE may not have had a winter with much snow.

But this spring a runner from Lymm will take on a world record in the London marathon – dressed in full snowboarding gear and even carrying a board.

James Williams, 44, is taking part in the London Marathon on April 28 and as vice chairman of Lymm Round Table will be raising money for its children's wish charity to boot.

The dad-of-two said: "I decided to do this because it combines two of my passions – snowboarding and running.

"I’ll be wearing the full snowboarding kit including ski jacket, helmet, goggles and snowboard boots and of course carrying an adult snowboard which weighs about 5kg.

"I’ve learnt that it’s also pretty unwieldy to run with.’

The current world record James needs to beat is 5 hours 46 minutes.

James said: "Having done a couple of practice runs, including the Southport Mad Dog 10K race on February 3, this is going to be a tough target."
