A KIND-hearted Wilmslow school girl has used her baking skills to raise money for the hospital where her baby cousin received heart surgery.

Isabella Lawrie, a Lacey Green Academy pupil, organised a bake sale at the Barlow Road School raising £600 for Evelina London Children’s Hospital where her cousin Charlie is being treated for a very rare heart condition.

Charlie was born on New Year’s Eve in 2017 with an interrupted aortic arch, a heart defect in which the aorta is not completely developed. He also had a huge hole in his heart and at just eight days old underwent the first of two heart surgeries that would take place in his first year of life.

Charlie’s mum Katie Lawrie, who lives in Brighton, said: “We didn’t tell Isabella about Charlie’s heart problems to start with but when Charlie was born, she just couldn’t wait to see him.

“Isabella absolutely adores Charlie and has been amazing in helping me out with him when she’s been to visit.

“She is a very special, kind-hearted little girl who would go out of her way to help anyone in need.”

For the past month 11-year-old Isabella has been working tirelessly to arrange the fundraiser at her school.

Katie added: “She’s had to do presentations to the principal and the school council, to finally get the go ahead to do a bake sale at the school, which I think is really impressive.

“She made flyers to put up around the school to advertise the sale, and she worked so hard at getting as many school friends and family members to bake and donate cakes for the event. She’s amazing. The cake sale took place on Valentine’s Day and when she rang me up that night and told me how much they’d raised, I was amazed! There’s a huge hug in store for her when I next see her.

“I’d also like thank Isabella’s friends Grace, Olivia, Lily, Ella, Herbie and Lucy as they all played a big part in helping Isabella bring all of this together.”

Isabella's dad, Mark added: "Isabella is such a kind and caring sole, who continually puts herself out to help people. She makes me and our family so proud in everything she does. Whether its baking cakes, singing in the school choir or helping her grandparents in the garden, she puts in 100% effort."
