WARRINGTON Borough Council has given the green light to plans to turn George Formby's former Stockton Heath home into offices.

Most recently used as a hotel, an application to Warrington Borough Council sought planning permission to convert 143 London Road into an office space.

Known as Hillcrest, the listed building is the former family home of George Formby.

The legendary comedian moved into the property with his family as a teenager in 1917.

He would launch his career in the entertainment industry from this home - following in his dad's footsteps on the music hall stage - and living there until 1924.

Since 2013, the house has been used as the Amado Boutique Hotel.

But this shut last year and the building has been vacant since, with Causeway Electrical Services seeking consent to turn the property into offices.

And planning permission has now been granted by Warrington Borough Council.
