TEMPERATURES are set to climb as high as 14C today in York - and these daffodils have responded to the exceptionally mild weather by blooming earlier than normal.

The flowers are pictured in the sunshine this weekend on York's Bar Walls near Walmgate Bar.

They are seen as heralding spring, and forecasters say the spring-like conditions are set to continue in York for at least the rest of the month.

It may turn cloudier this afternoon following periods of sunshine this morning, but the city should see a maximum temperature of 13C or even 14C, although a breeze will make it feel a little cooler.

Tomorrow will be even breezier and temperatures will fall to about 11C, although there will still be sunny spells, and it should turn very mild again later in the week, with 15C possible by Friday.

Temperatures should still be in the teens at the end of the month,in stark contrast to last year when the 'beast from the east' brought snow and sub-zero temperatures.
