POLICE officers have assured the public that the occupants of a bungalow still decorated in Christmas lights are safe and well.

Concerned residents had raised the alarm after the property next to St Mary's Church still had their Christmas decorations up several weeks into January.

PCSO Jennings visited the bungalow and the couple said they had not got round to taking them down.

Jill Crossland, who lives in the bungalow, then wrote on Facebook: "Having been made aware of all the comments regarding our welfare because of the Christmas lights still being on, first of all we would like to thank everyone for their concern.

"It’s heartening to know there are still people who care about their neighbours. Secondly, the reason for leaving the lights on was to remind ourselves and everyone else what a joyous time Christmas can be and why limit that joy to Christmas alone?

"Also it helped to brighten up what was an otherwise dull January. However, in order to waylay any more concern, we have, reluctantly, decided to turn them off, although we are keeping our inside lights on all year. Thank you again for your concern."
