A GRAPPENHALL mum with terminal cancer is sharing her inspirational wellness journey to help motivate others.

Vicki Traviss, 40, first joined Weight Watchers in January 2012 to support her daughter.

She told herself she did not need to lose weight but when Vicki stepped on the scales, she was surprised to see what she weighed, so she stuck to the plan and tracked everything she ate.

Vicki was happy to see she lost 4lbs in her first week and by May had reached her goal.

Vicki joined a gym and continued to go to her workshop every week, which helped her keep to under her goal weight for 12 months.

Sadly, in July 2013 Vicki was diagnosed with breast cancer.

After two operations, six months of chemotherapy and 12 rounds of radiotherapy, Vicki could finally go back to her workshop.

She said: “I walked back in to my class and I was very nervous, not because I had put all my weight on but because I was going to a new workshop.

“I was told that because of the medication it would be very hard to lose weight, but me being me, I wanted to prove them all wrong.”

It took Vicki a little longer but in June 2015 she got to her new goal weight.

In February 2018 Vicki was tragically diagnosed with secondary breast cancer of the bone which is terminal. Understandably Vicki lost her way and stopped going to her workshop.

Vicki now has to have chemotherapy daily in tablet form and monthly injections.

She said: “I can't control cancer but I can control my weight loss.”

Vicki went back to her workshop in October and today is still in her goal range.

She added: “ I can't exercise due to pain and extreme fatigue but with the help, love, support and understanding from my coach Kath I will get down to 10 stone six lbs. I face each day with a smile on my face and determination."

Vicki’s wellness coach Kath said: “I first met Vicki when she was a helper at a Latchford WW workshop, I was so pleased when she decided to attend my Lymm workshop.

"She is such a supportive member of our group and truly inspirational. Her enthusiasm and love of the plan shine through. "Members like Vicki are what makes this the most rewarding and enjoyable job ever.”
