A CAREERS summit that will aim to raise aspiration and ambition of young people throughout the borough will take place on Wednesday, January 30 at the home of Saints.

The event will run from 9am to 3pm and see talks taking place in the morning from Mike Palin, the chief executive St Helens Council, and Eamonn McManus, the chair of St Helens Economy Board and owner of St Helens RFC.

A lunch will be provided for all before a careers fair takes place in the afternoon, with ambassadors holding stalls to showcase their businesses and discussing routes into employment with the young people.

Organisers say that while the event has a careers focus, when raising aspirations and ambition, there is a need to highlight to the young people that inspiration can be found in many places.

This includes examining how facing difficult experiences and overcoming adversity shape us into becoming the people we are.

The second part of the morning sees two alternative speakers who will represent this, Linzi Prescott, trustee of The Steve Prescott Foundation and Rachel Springford, consultant social worker for St Helens Council who is a care leaver.

The afternoon will comprise of a careers fair where a number of local national and international businesses will set up stalls so that students are able to informally approach different employers and talk to them personally.

There will also be representatives from public services such as NHS, Police and Fire Service, as well as colleges and universities.
