WORK is well under way on repairing the river bank around the town's war memorial.
Warrington Borough Council is spending £1.1million on repairing the Cenotaph at Bridge Foot.
The monument itself and its surrounding features will be dismantled and stored away in a secure depot.
The Grade II listed war memorial will be re-sited in its current location after the ‘stabilisation’ work is finished.
This week, hoarding has gone up around the plot and some of the outer railings have been removed.
Work started at the beginning of January and is set to be finished before this year's Remembrance Sunday service.
Drivers are being warned to expect delays when work is taking place.
