ARSONISTS targeted a barn building in Appleton last night.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Park Lane shortly after 7.45pm on Tuesday, New Year's Day.

Firefighters tackled the blaze, in a detached two-storey outbuilding near to Appleton Reservoir, for several hours last night.

Four fire engines attended the scene, as well as relief crews.

Crews fought the fire from an aerial platform after the structure collapsed, with concerns raised over the safety of the firefighters.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

Investigations into the cause of the fire will ‘take place in due course’, with a building inspector from Warrington Borough Council having also visited the site.
