A CARE home has been rated as good by inspectors, a year after being told to improve.

The Care Quality Commission found improvements at Westvale House Care Home in Old Hall during an unannounced inspection in September.

Previously in April 2017, the CQC had ordered the Old Hall Road care home - which was first opened in 1989 - to improve.

On this occasion, it was found that practices had the potential to ‘place the health and safety of vulnerable people at risk’.

But during this reinspection, the CQC noted that residents at Westvale House were ‘treated with care and kindness’.

A total of 51 people, some of whom are living with dementia, were living in the home at the time of the inspection.

The CQC’s report into the home said: “At this inspection, we found that improvements had been made.

“People in the home were protected from the risks of abuse.

“Risks were identified and managed effectively in order to protect people in the home from harm.

“Recruitment processes were in place to make sure, as far as possible, that people were protected from unsuitable staff being employed.

“People told us that they were treated with care and kindness - people were treated with respect, and their dignity was upheld.”
