A PENSIONER who was found masturbating in two supermarkets has been given a two-year suspension order.

Brian Tempest, of Laira Street in Orford, exposed himself twice in Asda Cockhedge and once in Sainsbury's on Church Street between January and March of this year.

The 84-year-old appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday after a jury found him guilty of committing three counts of outraging public decency.

Police reviewed CCTV footage from the ASDA store after receiving a complaint about a man performing a sex act in an aisle and were able to identify Tempest.

A short time later, a woman phoned the police to report a man had followed her around Sainsbury's while masturbating.

She took a photo of Tempest and an undercover police officer later arrested the pensioner.

Once in custody, officers found holes cut inside the right hand pocket of Tempest's jeans.

Judge Rachel Smith, said: "These were serious offences.

"He needs to understand that this type of behaviour is unacceptable and a supervision order will prevent any repetition of these events.

"Brian Tempest will receive the supervision and support he needs to assist and maintain his health and to understand how unacceptable his behaviour has been.

"It will reduce the risk of this happening again."
