ROADS across Warrington are set for improvements following a £1.4 million boost.
The Department for Transport has announced drivers and cyclists in the north west will benefit from better roads after it released an extra £53 million for repairs.
It brings the total funds for the region’s roads this year up to £176 million.
Cllr Hans Mundry, Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for highways, transportation and public realm, welcomed the news.
He said: “The council has over 1,137km of road network to maintain.
“The additional £1.4 million funding from the Government is essential in assisting the authority to improve the condition of roads across the borough and is greatly welcomed.”
Roads minister Jesse Norman says the £53 million cash boost will keep the region’s roads in good condition, while keeping drivers and cyclists safe.
Since 2015, roads in the north west have benefitted from £1.5 billion of investment, which includes the smart motorway schemes of the M6, M60 and M62.
