FOUR Labour councillors will battle it out to be the next deputy leader of Warrington Borough Council.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin (LAB – Latchford West), Cllr Dan Price (LAB – Great Sankey North and Whittle Hall), Cllr Cathy Mitchell (LAB – Burtonwood and Winwick) and Cllr Hans Mundry (LAB – Latchford East) are in the running for the position.
Councillors will vote for their preferred choice at the Labour group meeting next Thursday, December 13, with the result to be declared on the same evening.
Cllr Russ Bowden (LAB – Birchwood), who is the current deputy leader and executive board member for corporate finance, will formally be elected as leader at the next full council meeting on December 17.
Cllr Bowden’s election to the borough’s top job came after Cllr Terry O’Neill announced he will be stepping down, although he will continue serving as a Burtonwood and Winwick ward councillor.
In contrast to the position of leader, the deputy post does not require ratification from full council.
