WORK to build a £50 million apartment block and multi-storey car park in Warrington town centre is ready to start after a developer bought the site.

RAM Properties has sold the land, on Winwick Street and John Street, to High Street Residential.

The £3 million plus deal paves the way for construction work to begin.

In May, planning chiefs approved plans to build an eight-storey apartment block, with 362 units, and a public, nine-storey car park, with 796 spaces, on the site.

Bob McLaughlin, managing director of RAM Properties, has welcomed the completion of the deal.

He said: “We’ve always been at the core of Warrington’s ongoing regeneration and are proud to be facilitating in its renaissance with the sale of this site.

“Our business has been built upon seeing opportunity.

“We have always strongly believed and invested in the potential of Warrington town centre.

“Immediately opposite the site is The Boultings – a former derelict chapel that was in danger of demolition – which we saved and converted into prime office accommodation that we still own and manage.

“Just a little further up the road, we also have Dallam Court, Ribban Court and Tannery Court.

“The High Street Residential scheme will be another fabulous asset in Warrington town centre.”

The developer is also required to contribute £75,000 towards a travel plan for the site, as part of the section 106 agreement.
