BLAKE Austin says his new environment at Warrington Wolves has had a "reinvigorating" effect on him.

The playmaker is The Wire's marquee signing for 2019 having joined from NRL side Canberra Raiders on a three-year deal.

Austin has spent the past two weeks in pre-season training with his new teammates and says he is enjoying his senior role within Steve Price's squad.

"It’s been really good so far. The facilities are really good and the playing group have been really welcoming," he said.

"We’ve been working really, really hard. It’s starting to get a bit colder and wetter, but I knew what I was in for coming over here.

"It’s about cracking on, as you guys say over here.

"The older boys are slowly coming back in, a few of them are still enjoying their time away!

"The coaching staff have been great and I’ve been enjoying working with Pricey, Briersey (Lee Briers), Hendo (Andrew Henderson) and Ade (Gardner).

"It’s about bringing what I’ve learned from footy to date, but also coming with an open mind.

"I don’t think you can compare Super League to the NRL, it’s two completely different games.

"It has been reinvigorating. I’m enjoying being in a more senior role.

"In coming from the NRL, the younger guys listen intently to you so it’s a role I like."

Austin arrived in time to start pre-season training on the very first day – something he says is a demonstration of how keen he is to make an impression.

"I spoke to the boys a little while ago and they were all saying “I guess we’ll be seeing you in January then," he said.

"That’s not the kind of person I am. I know how important pre-season is.

"It was important that I was here for day one and it’s the first little sign to show how keen I am.

"My break has been a bit too long, to be honest. We didn’t play finals at Canberra so I’ve had a good 10 or 11 weeks. It gets to the point that you’re a bit fed up of looking after the kids and you’re itching to get back to work.

"My kids started school yesterday, so it’s a little bit of normality for them."
