TREES have been planted in Culcheth to mark the 100th birthday of the Cheshire Federation of Women’s Institutes.

Culcheth and Newchurch WIs were each asked to plant a tree to mark the centenary by the federation, and these have now been planted on the Millenium Garden.

The two hornbeam trees were donated by Bents Garden Centre after it approached for help by parish councillor Ileyne Hutchinson, who is also the vice-president of the Culcheth WI.

Matthew Bent, managing director of Bents, said “It was great to be involved with such a worthy cause.

“I’m always happy to become involved in projects that help the local community.”

The trees have been planted alongside commemorative brass plaques, paid for by Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council.
