WHAT’S the craic?

Well have you heard that a new Irish bar has opened in Golden Square’s growing food and drink scene in the Old Fish Market?

Flanagans has launched just in time for the roaring trade of the festive season and as well as being somewhere to sink a Guinness or savour an Irish whiskey, the venue also offers hearty Irish fare.

Liam James, formerly of Mojos Bar and Tapas, has joined as head chef and among the specials is the ‘You Can’t Eat All That’ Irish breakfast.

Manager James Lochhead, a former Woolston High student, said: “We do a full Irish breakfast which has four sausages, four rashers of bacon, three eggs, hash brown, white pudding and black pudding so it’s pretty much an all you can eat. We obviously do smaller breakfast options but it’s gone down really well. Then we’ve got Irish dishes like beef and Guinness pie and stew of the day on the mains. It’s all very generous portions.”

Flanagans also features live acoustic music nights every Friday and Sunday with Irish artists booked where possible.

James, 33, added: “The reaction has been really good.

“It’s a great location in the square. It’s somewhere you can enjoy a Guinness and some food in a laid-back atmosphere and we’ve got a jukebox which is proving popular. It’s all themed around a traditional Irish pub.”
