MOBBERLEY and Holmes Chapel pubs have been named among the north west’s most dog-friendly in a vote by customers.

The Plough and Flail in Paddock Hill Lane and Middlewich Road’s George and Dragon have been included in a shortlist of 12 pubs catering to four-legged as well as two-legged customers.

While Warrington pub The Maltings took the biscuit all 12 were praised for their ‘paw power’ by online dog-sitting platform DogBuddy.

Caroline Terrington, who took over at the Plough and Flail in 2016, said: “We had an email from DogBuddy completely out of the blue, so someone must have voted for us!

“We run a doggy bar with all sorts of treats, which are all free, and also hold our dog walking club.

“The bar includes lots of treats, water, towels and dog walking leaflets.

“We are very dog-friendly, and lots of our visitors bring their dogs.

"They will park up, go for a walk around Mobberley and back to the pub for some food and drink. It's the perfect place for it.”

Voted for by dog-loving pub visitors, the shortlist aims to show some well-deserved appreciation for dog-friendly establishments and encourage people to discover new locations.

For regulars at the Plough and Flail, discovering new locations in Mobberley is an option each month with the pub’s hugely popular dog walking club.

Caroline added: “Our walking club takes place on the second Saturday of each month.

"From 10.30am we'll meet for breakfast and tea and coffee, and then head out around 11am for a walk of around an hour and a half around Mobberley.

“We try and do different routes, and it's all depends on the weather and how many people we get – we've had to go booking-only and cap it at 25.

“I have been here two-and-a-half years and got my dog Max for the purpose of the club.

“In September 2016 it was just me, then I persuaded some friends to come along, we started to get a few more and it's grown from there.”

Another pub catering to pooches, the George and Dragon in Holmes Chapel received rave reviews when DogBuddy asked for the top pubs in the region.

One vote cast in the pub’s favour said: “When I book a table and say I’m bringing my cocker spaniel Louie they always set him a place at the end with a bowl of water and some biscuits.

“The staff are incredible and always have treats on them when they come over and can’t stop fussing him – I think my dog loves it more than me.”

Richard Setterwall, founder and CEO of DogBuddy, said: “For the third year running, DogBuddy – with the help of dog lovers up and down the country - has been searching for the best of the best when it comes to dog-friendly pubs.

“The superb service demonstrated shows a real consideration for dog welfare and happiness, which we at DogBuddy value above all.

“The whole DogBuddy pack hopes that the awards will inspire dog owners country-wide to discover and support their local pubs.”
