A WIDNES high school has won a top education award to complete a remarkable transformation.

Ormiston Chadwick Academy was named Most Inspirational Secondary School at the prestigious Educate Awards ceremony last night, Friday.

The awards, in partnership with Copyrite Systems and Ricoh, are now in its seventh year and is the largest education awards in the north west.

More than 600 guests gathered for the ceremony held at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, hosted by broadcaster, Simon ‘Rossie’ Ross.

On the night, 21 awards were handed out to schools in the Liverpool City Region, Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

The Widnes academy is now ‘outstanding’ but was judged ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted just three years ago.

Principal Tuesday Humby, together with her dedicated team, has transformed the school and it is now one of the best performing in the area, with many students wanting to attend.

Results have also vastly improved and the class of 2018 are set to achieve over 1.0 for Progress 8.
