THE Co-op has served up a new food store in Burtonwood following a £615,000 investment.

The village’s new Co-op – located on Chapel Lane – has created five new jobs at the store which is now open for business.

The store had been built on land that previously housed the car park of St Michael’s Church Parish Hall.

The new Co-op includes customer car parking, a Costa coffee dispenser, in-store bakery, and hot food.

The store also brings a funding boost for local causes through the Co-op’s membership scheme.

Members receive a five per cent reward when they swipe their membership card when buying own brand products, with the Co-op donating one per cent to local causes.

Julie Gledhill, Co-op store manager, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming members and customers into their new-look store.

“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to carry out such a significant investment in Burtonwood, which will enable us to better serve our community – we are proud to be part of the community, and are committed to ensuring the store is a local hub."

Ian Hall, area manager for the Co-op, added: “The Co-op is investing in products, people, prices, stores and communities and I am confident that our new-look store will enable us get closer to the needs of our members and customers – what they need, when and where they need it.”

Altrincham-based developer, Langdale Capital, developed the site and completed an external programme of works for the hall as part of the arrangements, including a new garden, new car park, new drainage system, and the railings to the front of the property to match with the new Co-op.

In addition to funding for refurbishment to the hall which would can help to enhance facilities for the community, and safeguard the hall for future generations.

Bishop Geoff Pearson rededicated the Parish Hall and new garden at a service on November 3.

There are offers and promotions in and around the new store to mark its official launch last week.

Students, holding the NUS extra (TOTUM) card, will receive a 10 per cent discount off their groceries to help to support them during their studies.
