PLANS have been unveiled to tackle traffic and transport concerns in Burtonwood following a public consultation.

Earlier this year, residents were encouraged to have their say on proposed measures after the Omega scheme reached a stage where funding was available to target the key traffic issues as well as deter speeding through the village and surrounding roads.

Measures will now be installed at Farmers Lane, Hall Lane Proposal, Gorsey Lane, Perrin Road Proposal and Penny Lane Proposal.

A spokesman for the council said: “Having assessed the responses to the consultation questions there is clearly strong support from the residents of Burtonwood for the scheme to be implemented.

“A large number of written responses were also received some via the formal questionnaire and others via email direct to the project team responsible for delivering the scheme.

“Where appropriate changes have been made to the scheme based on the comments provided.

“Other changes to the scheme have also been made due to the fact that officers in parallel with the consultation process have undertaken further development works which have highlighted constraints which will mean that elements cannot be progressed.”

The most notable changes include the omission of the toucan crossing facility to be replaced by a zebra crossing closer to the community centre as well as the decision to implement an extended tabled junction at Clay Lane and Gorsey Lane junction instead of a mini roundabout.

The mini roundabout junction proposed at Fir Tree Lane and Alder Lane is no longer included in the plans due to safety concerns around adjacent driveways.

Work is expected to start in April with the completion estimated in August.
