TWO Warrington driving instructors have come together to take part in Children in Need's Big Leaner Relay.

Bev Smith of Bev's Driving School and Jane Hatton-Robinson of Mini School of Motoring drove two stretches of the UK-wide fundraiser from Runcorn, through Warrington, to Altrincham.

The charity event involves driving instructors relaying a special Children in Need top-box from one driving lesson to another around England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The route covers around 3,000 miles and each instructor comes up with ways to raise funds.

Since 2014, The Big Learner Relay has raised more than £300,000.

Bev Smith, a Warrington-based driving instructor, raised money with 'sponsor a spot'.

She said: "All the cars were spotty and people could give and sponsor a spot to put on the car for the relay.

"My car raised about £6,000 which will be donated to Children in Need."

Bev drove from Runcorn Linnets Football Club in Runcorn to The Springbrook in Knutsford Road, Grappenhall.

She added: "Louise Walsh, who created it all, contacted me and asked if I wanted to do it.

"We ended up with the CEO of Children in Need in the car with us.

"The idea was to carry the Pudsey top-box around the country which was transferred from car to car.

"It was such a great day."

Jane Hatton-Robinson picked up the relay from The Springbrook and drove the next stretch of the journey to Altrincham.

Louise Walsh who came up with the concept, travelled the route in the back of each lead car’s lesson.

Speaking before the event, she said: "I am so looking forward to meeting the hundreds of participating instructors, taking photos, cheering the convoy on, updating the live feeds, communicating with the media and wearing my Big Learner Relay hoodie with pride as we travel around the country."
