Lymm 2nd 7 Sedgeley Park 2nd 36

AS an injury crisis continues to plague Lymm at senior level, the second team were always going to be in for a difficult afternoon on Saturday.

With the first team not in action, it was their chance to take centre stage but they ran into a strong and experienced visiting outfit at Crouchley Lane.

They lost another four players to injury as the club’s selection problems continued to deepen.

Sedgeley Park took the lead within the first minute after working an overlap to score a converted try.

Lymm muscled up after that and stayed in the game until the visitors doubled their lead with a sucker-punch just before the interval.

From the restart, the hosts put some good phases together and that led to Richie McEvoy going over for their first points, with Josh Davies adding the extras.

However, this stung Sedgeley into action and they stretched their lead with an unconverted try and a penalty goal.

The visitors’ superior fitness and size told in the later stages as they scored two tries in the final 10 minutes, leaving Lymm to reflect on a brave but ultimately fruitless display.

Adam Fletcher’s first team return to action when they host league leaders Hull on Saturday, while the seconds are away to Fylde.

Warrington 2nd 29 Fylde 3rd 26

A SUPERB display of character from Warrington’s young second team saw them recover from a slow start to stun a strong Fylde outfit.

Will Maudsley’s winning try completed a fine comeback after Dave Murphy and Ben Hart had scored to begin their revival.

They found themselves 12 points behind early on, but replied when skipper Craig Byrne powered over for a try converted by Ben Dixon.

However, two penalties and a drop goal gave Fylde a nine-point half-time advantage despite another Warrington try.

Fylde’s third try 10 minutes into the second half seemed to have them coasting to victory, but Warrington refused to accept defeat.

Murphy touched down out wide before Hart crashed over from close range to put the hosts within sight of victory.

The win was confirmed when Maudsley crossed in the corner.

“I’m very proud of the lads,” Byrne said.

“We never gave up and the way we used our forward platform to come back shows that we will present a formidable challenge in the league this season.”

The first team are back in action at Penrith on Saturday, while the seconds host Sandbach on the same day.
