A WOMAN has been fined after stealing five dolls from a supermarket in order to give them to her granddaughter as a birthday present.
Karon Morrison, from Winwick, stole the LOL Surprise Dolls from Tesco Extra in an ‘impulsive’ act of theft.
On Thursday, November 8, she was given a fine by Warrington Magistrates Court.
The court heard that a security guard at the Winwick Road store spotted the 60-year-old acting suspiciously on Wednesday, September 12, and monitored her movement via CCTV.
Morrison, of Myddleton Lane, was at first seen to put the five dolls – valued at £59.98 – in her trolley but then placed them into her bag.
She paid for some items but not the dolls, and was stopped by the security guard while leaving the supermarket.
After being arrested, Morrison – who has seven previous convictions for 11 offences – told police that she had taken the items to give to her granddaughter as a birthday present.
Morrison admitted one count of theft and was given a 12-month conditional discharge by magistrates, and was also ordered to pay court costs of £85 plus a £20 victim surcharge.
