A WAREHOUSE worker has admitted pulling a knife on a colleague and threatening to stab him during a night shift.

Christopher Ainsworth slashed the tyre of a bike belonging to his co-worker at the Tesco Distribution Centre in Widnes before threatening him with the blade.

On Thursday, November 8, the 36-year-old admitted threatening behaviour and criminal damage in relation to the incident at Warrington Magistrates Court.

The court heard that the defendant, from Liverpool, and colleague Alan Glover had had an argument during a shift on Tuesday, October 16, over an overloaded cage.

At around 1am on a night shift the following day, a colleague told Mr Glover that Ainsworth had slashed the tyre of his bike.

When he confronted his co-worker about it, he reached into his pocket and took out a knife before adding: “I hate you, I’ll f***ing stab you.”

Mr Glover then drove away on a loading truck.

Ainsworth, who began working at the Macdermott Road distribution centre earlier this year, later handed the knife over to a manager.

The police were called to the scene, and the defendant – who is currently suspended from his job at Tesco – was arrested.

He will be sentenced on Friday, November 30, and has been released on bail until that date.
