THE Prince of Wales turns 70 on Wednesday.

So to mark the occasion, this week in Yester Years we are looking back to the last time Prince Charles came to Warrington.

Back in November 2005, he came to Warrington Town Hall to hand out medals to soldiers serving with The Cheshire Regiment and The Kings Regiment.

Large crowds gathered in Bank Park to mark the occasion and watch the ceremony.

It was not the first time he had visited Warrington.

He and Diana, the Princess of Wales, visited the town centre in 1984.

The couple came to open the Alice in Wonderland statue at Golden Square Shopping Centre which still stands close to the Old Fish Market.

The visit, at the end of May, coincided with the completion of a £25 million project to develop the site by Legal and General.
