HALE'S Duck Decoy Pond has been added to the heritage at risk register to preserve Halton's history.
Today, Thursday, Historic England will publish the 2018 heritage at risk register, an annual snapshot of the health of England’s historic places.
The Hale Duck Decoy Pond in Halton is an artificial pool dating back to the 17th century.
It is one of the 24 sites from the north west to be added to the register this year.
Decoy ponds were used to lure, trap and kill ducks for food and feathers.
Only a few examples remain and this surviving pond retains many original features, earning its place on the heritage register.
This year, Historic England is celebrating 20 years of their register providing technical and planning advice, grant aid and creative ideas for how historic sites can be used and protected.
