A PRIMARY school PTA has raised a record-breaking £25,000 to regenerate the school grounds.

Stockton Heath Primary School in West Avenue has managed fundraised a huge amount of money over the past year with various events courtesy of their PTA.

These involved a number of sponsored events included a three peaks challenge where PTA members climbed Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland.

The money will now help to fund a new playground for the students.

Julie Jones, treasurer of the PTA said: "The main earners for us last year were our sponsored events, three peaks accounts for the majority.

"We had two bumper fairs during the year, both surpassing previous years and raising around £4,500 each.

"These were in addition to our in-school fundraisers such as discos, cake sales and freeze pop Fridays.

Julie believes that the key to their success was the team's energy and their JustGiving page which enabled them to reach a wider audience.

She added: "Of course this comes with added pressure on the team to ‘up their game’ and now we have to build on last year.

"We already have a very exciting addition to our annual Christmas fair planned with our food and drink marquee and some special guests in attendance.

"Our three peaks team are dusting off their walking boots and have started to train for their next massive physical challenge.

"The funding focus is driven by the requirement to provide our children with the best outdoor school provision possible and we are working with teachers and governors to ensure that plans for a brand new playground comes to fruition!"
