I WAS interested to read that Warrington’s Own Buses has been shortlisted for an award for marketing in the UK Bus Awards (Warrington Guardian, October 11).

There is no doubt that huge amounts of time and money have been spent on marketing the new Cheshire Cat buses.

However this has been at the expense of existing services, in particular the number six service along Stockport Road, Thelwall, where the mostly elderly residents no longer have access to a bus service.

This is ostensibly because the service was not economically viable but any savings from the axing of this valued service are vastly outweighed by the money spent on this re-branding exercise.

This is a case of style over substance and as such an ideal subject for a marketing award.
