MICHAEL Monaghan can consider his name written into Wire folkore as he heads home to Australia.

The former Warrington Wolves hooker or half-back has left his role as Wakefield Trinity assistant coach, bringing his 10-year stay in Europe to a close.

Monaghan, 38, spent six years as a player with Wolves under Tony Smith, helping them to victory in the 2009, 2010 and 2012 Challenge Cup finals at Wembley, the League Leaders' Shield success in 2011 as well as th club's first two Super League Grand Final appearances.

After hanging up his boots he has spent the last four years as assistant coach with Catalans Dragons and, more recently, Wakefield.

The former Canberra and Manly player has decided to return to Australia with his family.

Monaghan said: "I am sad to be leaving but my wife has been offered a job over in Australia.

"We sat down as a family and we realised that this would be the perfect time to return home.

"I will miss it here in England, I have had a fantastic career here."
