FARM land bordering Omega could be redeveloped under ambitious new plans to create more than 2,000 jobs.

An environmental screening option has been lodged with St Helens Council and Warrington Borough Council to build three warehouses of more than 1,500,000 sq ft bordering the M62.

It would extend the current Omega North site which is home to Travis Perkins, Brakes and Hermes.

While the actual warehouses would be on St Helens land, the access road from Lockheed Road, which joins Burtonwood Road, would be within the Warrington boundaries.

According to the planning documents, the proposed development is initially estimated to create approximately 1,974 jobs and a further 869 indirect jobs supported by operation at the site.

A further 320 jobs would be expected during the construction period which is expected to be less than years.

The report added: "This addition of jobs would be beneficial to both St Helens and Warrington and their collective ongoing economic growth.

"It would also further establish the wider Omega development as both a regionally and nationally significant employment destination.

"The development also has the potential to generate up to £1.5million of businesses rate revenue per annum."

All units on Omega, including the ones currently being built, have now been let, hence the demand for new units.
