A WIDNES garden centre has unveiled a new display to encourage and inspire gardeners to pick up a trowel.

The display garden has been unveiled at Notcutts Garden Centre, Rivendell, on Mill Lane in Widnes, to offer creative planting and landscaping ideas to customers.

On Thursday, October 4, Caroline Notcutt, vice-chairman and great-granddaughter of Notcutts’ founder Roger Crompton Notcutt held a special ribbon cutting ceremony to open the garden.

She was joined by Councillor John Bradshaw, the current Mayor of Halton, alongside businesses, customers and the Notcutts Rivendell team to formally introduce the space.

The garden was designed by Notcutts’ head of visual merchandising, Marco de Jongh, and plant buyer, Stuart Andrews.

It was planted by the Rivendell team to showcase Notcutts’ 120-year history of horticultural passion and gardening expertise.

The garden is themed on tranquillity and it includes a large water fountain, a shaded seating area and over 200 plant varieties in calming pastel and white shades.

David Quigley, garden centre manager at Notcutts Rivendell, said: “Thank you to everyone who joined us for the grand opening of our new Notcutts Garden at Rivendell.

“The imaginative display is a wonderful addition to our garden centre, and we hope customers will enjoy visiting the garden as it grows and changes throughout the seasons.

“The garden celebrates the best of what we do at Notcutts.

“With more than 120 years’ experience and 50 Gold medals won at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, we’re pleased to bring our expertise in planting and garden design to our customers in Widnes.”

The official opening of the Notcutts Garden follows a recent refurbishment at the garden centre.

This includes a new restaurant with an alfresco dining terrace, outdoor play area, and extensive modernisation throughout the centre.

The display garden is one of many to be unveiled at Notcutts’ 18 garden centres nationwide, each with different themes and designs.

Notcutts is a family-owned group of garden centres.

The company was started in 1897 and offers products and friendly gardening advice.
