THIS was the dramatic scene as an air ambulance and five fire engines were called to the scene of a crash on the M6 on Tuesday.
Fire crews needed specialist equipment to free one of the drivers after the incident at 9am.
One lane was closed and there were long delays due to the multi-vehicle accident at junction 22 for Winwick Link Road, Newton Le Willows.
Delays of more than an hour were reported after the smash involved three large good vehicles.
The air ambulance landed in a nearby field but was not required.
The injured driver was taken to Warrington Hospital in an ambulance.
Their injuries are not thought to be serious.
