PLANS to build 180 homes in Stretton look set to be approved despite concerns over a ‘drastic increase’ in traffic.

The Homes and Communities Agency, which has been replaced by Homes England, had proposals for three schemes approved last year.

Outline plans for 180 properties on land in Stretton, bounded by Pewterspear Green Road and Stretton Road, as well as 370 homes at Appleton Cross and 400 homes in Grappenhall Heys, were passed.

The Pewterspear site was purchased by Barratt Developments in March this year, with a reserved matters planning application submitted to the authority in April.

It had been recommended for approval when it came before the development management committee last month.

A decision was deferred but it will come before the committee again on Wednesday.

In total, 14 objections have been submitted by residents.

Reasons for the objections include fears over green areas being reduced, damage to ‘community lifestyle’ and a ‘drastic increase’ in traffic on Stretton Road.

However, planning officers have recommended the plans for approval, subject to conditions.

In a planning statement, they said: “The detailed matters now submitted fully accord with the outline planning permission and are acceptable in accordance with core strategy policies aimed at delivering high-quality new areas of housing – and with the similar aims set out in the revised national planning policy framework.”

A sum of approximately £110,000 would be required to enhance the number eight bus service.

It would cover a five-year period, with the contribution split equally each year.
