THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for district nurses in memory of a mum-of-two, who was supported by the service during her two-year battle with cancer.

Nadine Davies – a ‘much-loved wife, mum and friend’ from Appleton – died at the age of 46 in December 2016.

District nurses based at Grappenhall Clinic cared for Nadine during the final two years of her life, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Family and friends raised £3,400 for the Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust-run service as a thank you for the support given by nurses.

Friend Sue Walker said: “Nadine was always a glamourous lady with a warm heart and a beautiful smile, who always had time for others.

“District nurses made a huge difference to Nadine and her family.

“As a mum of two teenage children, it was important to Nadine to stay at home during the final few months of her life.

“This was only possible because of the care and support provided by local district nurses.

“It was important to us that we raised money for the district nursing service, as well as Cancer Research UK and the Christie Hospital.”

Funds were raised through a ‘Come Fly with Me’ charity ball at the Park Royal Hotel, themed in tribute to Nadine’s 20-year career as an aeroplane cabin crew member.

More than 200 people attended the event.

Hayley Grimes, district nurse coordinator for Warrington South, added: “As district nurses it is an incredible privilege to care for patients in their own homes at the end of their lives.

“Nadine is fondly remembered by the team, and we are pleased that we were able to provide some comfort to her and her family during very difficult circumstances.

“We are extremely grateful for the donation, and we are committed to putting it to good use – such as on specialist equipment and training.”
