MP Faisal Rashid has backed Momentum Warrington chairman Kenny Watson to secure the Penketh and Cuerdley borough council seat for Labour.

The by-election, which comes after former councillor Allin Dirir sadly died on July 22 following a stroke, will take place on October 11.

The six-way battle for the seat will see Mr Watson go up against Conservative Phil Hayward, Liberal Democrat Dave Crowther, the Green Party’s Steph Davies, UKIP’s Ian Wilson and independent Geoff Fellows.

Labour’s Warrington South MP Mr Rashid has spoken out in support of Mr Watson.

He said: “I believe Kenny will be an excellent representative for Penketh and Cuerdley.

“As a resident, he understands the issues that matter to the communities across the area.

“I have no doubt that Kenny will be an effective voice for Penketh and Cuerdley and I look forward to working with him in the future.”

Mr Watson added: “I am delighted to have the backing of our MP Faisal Rashid and, if elected on October 11, I have pledged to work alongside Faisal and my fellow ward councillors to get the best deal for Penketh and Cuerdley.”
