AN award to mark the impressive range of science teaching on offer at a Whitecross primary school has been given.

Staff and pupils at Sacred Heart Primary School have been awarded the Primary School Science Quality Mark.

It shows off the profile and quality of science learning and teaching in the school.

Jane Turner, PSQM national director said: “Children are engaging with great science both in and outside the classroom, developing positive attitudes towards science as well as secure scientific understanding and skills.

“Science subject leaders, their colleagues, head teachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”

The report says it is clear the subject is ‘valued’ by the whole school community and added that the subject leader and senior leadership team should be congratulated for seeking out and investing in respectively, so much external staff CPD.

It added: “This has both enthused and informed staff, which has impacted on children’s working scientifically skills and science knowledge”

Colleen Everett, head teacher, said: “At Sacred Heart we strive to provide children with a rich, broad and balanced curriculum which motivates, engages and enthuses our children. We are passionate about providing children with the opportunity to explore all subjects and so we are absolutely delighted that our work has been recognised so positively.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more positive start to the new school year.”
