JASPER Carrott has teamed up with The Move and Electric Light Orchestra's Bev Bevan for a night that will blur the line between comedy and music.

The comedian, actor and presenter, who is also a musician in his own right, will be presenting Stand Up and Rock at the Parr Hall on March 22.

The tour marks a return to the stage for Jasper with a new show which will introduce audiences to veteran music icons who have spent their career on stages all over the world. Bev Bevan is a renowned drummer and founding member of The Move and Electric Light Orchestra.

His current band features Geoff Turton from The Rockin’ Berries, Phil Tree, formerly of Wizzard, celebrated session musicians Tony Kelsey and Abby Brant, and singer Suzi Woo. Jasper’s career, which has spanned five decades, first started when he became resident compere at the Boggery Folk Club in Birmingham in the mid-70s.

It was here that he discovered his talent for comedy and his inability to sing – not that it stopped him.

A hugely popular stalwart of the British folk club scene, Jasper’s comedy single Funky Moped shot to the top of the British pop charts in 1975, establishing him as a household name overnight.

On the flipside was his take on the legendary Magic Roundabout, a record still sought out today by a whole new generation of fans.

Jasper's TV debut came in the same year in a BBC programme about football called The Golden Game. Then he had his first series between 1978 and 1981 called An Audience with Jasper Carrott.

Among his other shows have been Carrott's Commercial Breakdown, which broadcast weird adverts from around the world, spoof police drama The Detectives with Robert Powell and BBC gameshow Golden Balls.

Becki Mundy from Parr Hall said: "Stand Up and Rock is a unique show not to be missed. It’s an opportunity to see and hear great artists belt out classic hits and watch Jasper Carrott back where he belongs – making us laugh."
