OVER the past few years my family have run a memorial day in memory of our son Michael, who we lost in 2008.

The money we have raised has gone to many local charities.

This year we decided to try to raise enough money to buy seven defibrillators for the amateur rugby league teams in the town.

With the aid of some very generous sponsorship we managed to raise in excess of £7,500 and we purchased the defibrillators.

Last Friday, September 7 we presented them to the seven amateur rugby league clubs at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

On behalf of my family I would like to thank a number of people, Stuart Middleton and Mike Lomax, chairman and director of Warrington Wolves, Neil Kelly and Gary Chambers, Wolves Foundation, Tony Gandy and Brian Gleave whose idea it was and all the sponsors, too numerous to mention.

We hope the clubs never have to use these devices, but if they do, and it saves one life – then it was worth it.
