A RESCUE operation has been carried out after the wheel came off the Crazy Train rollercoaster at Gulliver’s World.

Twenty-one children and adults were stuck at the top of the ride approximately 50ft in the air.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 1.20pm and have spent almost three hours at the scene while everyone was removed from the ride.

A police spokesman confirmed there had been no casualties and there is no suggestion of anything criminal.

Twenty one people were stuck on the ride.

Fire crews from Warrington and Lymm worked with theme park staff and paramedics to resuce those who were stuck.

Firefighters used ladders to help get to the people trapped on the ride which was approximately 50ft high up.

They secured the carriages to ensure they were stable.

A scaffolding tower was then built and those trapped continued to be freed and brought to safety.

The line rescue team set up a twin line lowering system to rescue three people.

One mum, Sarah from Liverpool, told the Warrington Guardian her seven-year-old daughter has been stuck on the ride with her partner for more than two hours.

She said: "My daughter has had nebs passed up for her asthma. She has been stuck there for two hours and 10 minutes.

"It has been horrible and she's still up there. There are five people still on the ride. Kids are traumatised."

Another mum said: "Next in the queue for Crazy Train at Gully's and hear an almighty crash as the wheels land on the floor.

"Ride stuck with those children mid ride! Never been so glad to still be waiting. Hope they get them down soon."

Nearby residents reported hearing the sound of falling metal and screams.

The park will be referred to the Health and Safety Executive on Monday.

It is thought the park is particularly busy today due to NHS staff being able to attend for free.

A statement from the fire service at 3.35pm added: "All those trapped on the ride have now been rescued. There aren’t believed to be any injuries reported."
