WORKERS at a warehouse in Woolston face a ‘pay lottery’, with some having not received their wages during months of disruption.

Staff at XPO Logistics’ distribution centre on Hardwick Grange have been underpaid, overpaid and not paid at all during two months of issues.

It is understood that a change of payroll provider has caused the problems, which have affected much of the company’s UK workforce - including those at the Woolston warehouse, which distributes for national brands including Marks and Spencer and Iceland.

Unions have told XPO Logistics to ‘get its house in order’, and said that the disruption had caused confusion amongst employees.

Unite added that issues have been ‘exacerbated by the high-handed and unsympathetic manner’ in which XPO Logistics has sought to reclaim money from workers it has overpaid.

Matt Draper, national officer for logistics and warehouse workers at Unite, said: “It is clear that XPO Logistics has got to get its house in order - XPO has tried to downplay these severe pay problems as teething problems, but this is a far greater problem which has been ongoing for months.

“Unite members are fed up of playing a perverse lottery every single week, where they don’t know what they will be paid until they receive their pay packet and then have to battle to have their pay paid correctly.

“XPO has then poured oil on already troubled waters by the heavy-handed manner in which it has sought to claw back money from workers who it has overpaid.

“The company needs to come round the table with Unite, explain how it will resolve these problems and also how it will restore morale and confidence that has been demolished by its own incompetence.”

But XPO Logistics says it has now resolved the issue.

A spokesman for the company added: “We experienced a technical issue with a payroll vendor, but the issues were corrected within the pay period.”
