A WOOLSTON pensioner has knitted dozens of dolls to be sent to orphans in Sri Lanka.

Ninety-year-old Mary Harcourt, a resident of Heathercroft Care Home on Longbarn Lane, is currently making 50 knitted dolls to be distributed to children who have lost their parents in the recent tsunami which hit the country.

Mary has always knitted Arran jumpers for her family, but now has limited use of her right arm following a fall and a battle with breast cancer.

She also suffers from poor eyesight.

But Mary was ‘determined’ to continue knitting, and after finding a book on doll making in the library she has since designed her own range of dolls.

Mary said: “I’m happy, it passes the time and my dolls are all over the world.”
