A TEACHER at Green Lane Special School in Padgate is in the running for a top national award.

Lynne Ledgard, who is assistant head teacher, faces a public vote to find out if she will take home the title of Inspiring Advocate for Learning Outside the Classroom

Lynne, who has been at Green Lane for the past 10 years, is part of the European research project developing a toolkit of resources to be used for pupils with special educational needs outside the classroom.

She led the school’s bid for forest school status.

Vote for her at lotc.org.uk/news-and-events/awards-for-outstanding-contribution-to-lotc/.

Kim Somerville, head of the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, the charity behind the awards, explains: “The Outstanding Contribution to Learning Outside the Classroom Awards recognise and celebrates the people and teams who are transforming the lives of children and young people by providing or championing exciting and inspiring learning outside the classroom experiences.

“We want as many people as possible to vote for their local hero so they can get the credit they deserve.”

Lynne is dedicated to ensuring that children from all backgrounds and abilities are able to enjoy and benefit from learning outside the classroom.

Kim added: “Learning outside the classroom plays such an important role in helping young people to achieve their potential by providing hands-on practical experiences that bring learning to life. Whether it is through fieldwork, school ground activities such as forest schools, educational visits to museums, galleries, farm activity centres, or cultural expeditions abroad, LOtC can build lasting, positive learning experiences.”
