A TEAM of footballers in Appleton have joined together to complete their biggest challenge – climbing Wales’ highest peak.

Appleton Marvels under 10s side have been together since they were four.

Coach Steve Mcalley decided climbing Mount Snowdon would be a perfect way to not only improve team building and pre-season fitness but also raise money for a new kit and a tour.

So the group of 23 players, parents and siblings took on the 17km walk to the top in challenging conditions during a weekend at the end of August in six-and-a-half hours.

Steve said: “Despite this it was a great day enjoyed by all.

“The commitment and effort it took makes these boys special, going that extra mile to get what they want.

“I am delighted to know that the boys have smashed it, making me, their parents and supporters, and most importantly themselves, proud of what they have achieved.”

More than £900 has already been raised, smashing the initial target.

And with Verona kitchen and bar in Newton donating a meal for four to give away to one lucky person at random that donates on on their Justgiving page, there is still time to hit a new target of £1,000.

And Steve is now hoping to pick somewhere else for the boys to try for a tour having been to Butlins Skegness for the past three years.

Steve added: “I would like to change it up and go and compete somewhere different while making memories for lifetime for the team.”
