THE first steelwork at the new Warrington Market is now visible from Bridge Street.

The market is getting a new home as part of the £120 million plus scheme to regenerate the Bridge Street and Time Square area.

Lift shafts are also in place as work begins to ramp up on site.

And the new hall is set to be open by early 2020.

Ironically this week marks the first year anniversary of the temporary market hall which opened in September 2017.

And a birthday party takes place tomorrow, Saturday, to celebrate.

Enjoy live music, entertainment and of course cake at the birthday party between 10am and 4pm.

There will also be a pop-up artisan market and Warrington Wolves ticket giveaways.

There will also be a launch event for the Market’s instant shopper reward card.

The celebration comes as new figures are revealed by the council that footfall in the market has bucked the trend elsewhere and improved since the start of the summer school holidays.

Andy Ward, market manager, said: "There will be something for everyone at our celebration on Saturday. Come along, and enjoy the fun.

"It is great to see that footfall is on the increase. Hopefully with our first birthday celebrations on Saturday and the instant shopper reward card going live, plus the Vinyl Record Fayre, next Saturday, September 7, we should break all records, no pun intended."

Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council added: "These are exciting times at Warrington Market which is continuing to grow as a destination shopping experience.

"The instant shopper reward card launches on Saturday too and is a great idea, especially if you are looking to snap up a bargain."
