A CONVICTED dangerous driver targeted a man and his family and shouted that they were 'going to get it' after following them home.

Ben Ord, of Abingon Avenue, Woolston appeared at Warrington Magistrates' Court on Tuesday for sentencing after being found guilty of dangerous driving and threatening behaviour at a trial.

It was just days after the 28-year-old admitted dangerous driving, criminal damage and common assault at Liverpool Crown Court in a separate road rage incident.

Warrington Magistrates' Court was told at 1.40pm on April 22, Kevin Slann was filling his car at Applegreen petrol station on Manchester Road.

Mr Slann heard a man shouting "Do you remember me?" from the next pump along.

Mr Slann said as he approached Ord he recognised him from an altercation two years ago.

He added: "He was continually shouting at me, he was angry and waving his arms back and forth.

"I carried on refuelling my car and he walked over and got something out of the boot.

"I felt threatened as he went back into his car."

Two days later, on April 24, Mr Slann was driving down Longford Street with his partner and two children sat in the back.

Debbie Byrne, prosecuting, said: "When Mr Slann approached the Orford Lane junction, he noticed a car was travelling close behind and flashing its lights."

The black Astra followed Mr Slann down Marsh House Lane and onto Padgate Lane travelling very close to the victim's car.

At the traffic lights, the car pulled up alongside Mr Slann and his family when he realised it was Ord in the car.

He leant over the passenger and began shouting, the court heard.

Once the lights turned green, Ord began driving erratically around Mr Slann's car and his young children began to cry.

His partner begged him not to drive home as she was frightened Ord would find out where they lived.

Slann decided to pull into Laburnum Avenue where Ord shouted "You're going to get it," before Mr Slann punched him in the face.

Mr Slann dropped his hysterical family off with a neighbour before watching Ord trying to find him on the street.

This was third incident Ord had with Mr Slann in similar circumstances.

Gary Heaven, defending, said: "Ord tells me that he has no intention of doing this again and he has been seriously scared by the judicial process.

"He knows he is fortunate to still be walking free rather than being locked up."

District judge, Bridget Knight, said: "It worries me deeply that Ord harboured this resentment for all this time.

"He behaved so dangerously and frighteningly towards Mr Slann and his family.

"You are an only child, your poor parents must have gone through hell every time you went out in your car.

"You behaved totally out of proportion.

"Every time we drive someone annoys us – just say something to yourself and learn to calm down."

Ord has been banned from driving for a further 12 months and was ordered to pay £250 compensation to Mr Slann, a £115 victim surcharge and £620 in court costs.

He received 26 weeks in prison suspended for 15 months for using threatening words with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence.

His dad told the court he had to cancel his holiday to pay the fines for his son.

In addition to the 180 unpaid work hours handed to him at Liverpool Crown Court, Ord will serve a further 60 hours and 25 days of rehabilitation.

A restraining order was also imposed, banning Ord from contacting Slann for five years.

His parents agreed to pay the costs for his conviction at Liverpool Crown Court earlier this week in addition to the £985 fine imposed by magistrates in Warrington.

The court in Liverpool heard Ord rammed another motorist's car in his mum's convertible before headbutting him.

He lost his temper when Kristian Ferguson questioned his driving in December.

Mr Ferguson was in his black Seat when he spotted a red Daihatsu Copen, with its roof down and overtaking other cars, at 1.10pm.

The victim first spotted him driving dangerously in Birchwood Way, they ended up on Blackbrook Avenue heading south.

The court heard Odd stopped in the lay-by, but then went the wrong way round the roundabout at the bottom of the road before moving left onto Green Lane, where he stopped and headbutted him.
